They really are learning so much every day. It doesn't look
like school learning (textbooks, worksheets, tests, and only covering "what
your Nth grader should know") but you know it is just as valuable, if not
more so, because it wasn't fed to them and promptly forgotten; it was
pursued with passion. When someone asks you what grade the kids are in, you
have to think a minute. You keep busy helping them pursue their passions as
well as their passing interests. You are on the lookout for new things you
think they might enjoy. You can see them making connections in all sorts of
unique and interesting ways, but sometimes you worry. Reading, math - will
they really figure out what they need to know? And are they truly learning
anything useful playing video games?
Reading
What about later readers? Here's an article I wrote about this topic.
Math
Does math really just come up in real
life? Are you intimidated by math and want to keep from passing that
on to your kids?
Video Games
They're having fun, but what can
they really be learning by playing video games?
